Thomas McGurl, Superintendent
As I continue my journey serving as your Superintendent of Schools, I am ever amazed by the "Golden Opportunities" available to our students. It is very easy to take these opportunities our students have for granted. Having been involved with several other schools throughout my career, I can assure you that what we have in Granville is truly something special. Being able to offer college credit bearing courses, programs for advanced academic study, enrichment opportunities, technical training, and support services simultaneously, is not the norm in smaller rural schools. We accomplish this year after year by having the entire community dedicated to the importance of a quality education for our children. Our district is fortunate to have strong community support, with many businesses, organizations, and individuals bridging the gap between school and community. This partnership is essential for our continued growth and development.
The Board of Education, administration, faculty and staff, and I, have worked diligently to place a keen focus on setting and achieving measurable goals in the areas of improving academic outcomes, district management, communication with stakeholders, and student safety. All of these are for one single purpose; to improve the students' daily experience and increase their success post-graduation. This is an ongoing process, and great strides have been made thus far.
In the last several years, we set out to build a very strong administrative team to support the teachers and staff, as well as students and parents. The Jr/Sr High, Granville Elementary School (GES) and Mary J. Tanner School (MJT) have talented principals in Mrs. Meade, Ms. Talmadge and Mr. Morcone. The departments of Special Education, Technology, and Facilities are being led by Mrs. Clark, Mr. Randles, and Mr. Daigle respectively. Each bring a wealth of experience to our district.
My door is always open. Should you have questions, concerns, or simply wish to discuss a matter of importance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
